在美国波士顿 犹太人大屠杀纪念碑上，
In Germany, they first came for the Communists,

and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,

and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists,

and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics,

and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me，
but by that time， there was no one left to speak up.

这首“短诗”的作者是一位牧师，他的名字叫马丁?尼莫拉。这位牧师是二战前德国的宗教领袖，他曾为战后德国社会道德重建立下了不朽功勋。当年，尼莫拉因反对希特勒的犹太政策和对德国教会的控制，被希特勒亲自下令送进集中营，最后在各方正义力量的协助下才逃过纳粹的迫害。这首短诗是他在晚年忏悔自己当年的道德污点时写下的。后来人们把它当作“碑文”刻在美国波士顿犹太人大屠杀纪念碑上。
